According to Chief Dave Hickson of the North Branch Fire Company, the fire companies in district three were alerted to the report of a smell of smoke from a condominium on Robinson Court around 4:30 a.m. When they arrived on the scene, a second-story condominium was fully engulfed in fire and smoke, he said. All residents of the building were immediately evacuated from the building by the Bridgewater Township Police. Hickson said a crew from North Branch started an initial search for victims in the building, and found one woman inside, unconscious. The woman was identified as Lisa Hook, 44, who was found unresponsive and lying on her living room floor, according to a release from the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office. The release said cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed, and she was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, where she was pronounced dead.
An autopsy, the release said, is pending by the New Jersey Regional Medical Examiner's Office in Newark. The fire itself, Hickson said, spread to the attic area of the building and other units in its path, causing a total of eight units to be uninhabitable. 'The Red Cross was notified to work with displaced residents,' he said. Responding to the scene were the Country Hills Fire Company, North Branch Fire Company, Green Knoll Fire Company, Bradley Gardens Fire Company, Finderne Fire Company, Raritan Borough Fire Department, Somerville Fire Department, Bradley Gardens Rescue Squad, Green Knoll Rescue Squad, Martinsville Rescue Squad, Hillsborough Rescue Squad and Branchburg Rescue Squad.
